  1. The IEA gives educators freedom. Membership in the IEA gives educators a process and a structure for dealing with the multitude of problems and concerns that can rob you of the precious time you need to do your work.
  2. The IEA protects educators’ rights. Sometimes even the best educators are threatened with the loss of their jobs or a violation of their hard-earned rights. IEA employs staff members to help you with grievances and job security, as well as a full-time attorney whose salary is paid by your dues. In addition, every Association member is covered by the $1 million Educators Employment Liability insurance policy.
  3. The IEA cares for children. Frequently, teachers dip into their own pockets to buy things for needy children whose families can’t afford to do so. But, it is impossible to help all of them. IEA has found a way to close the “help gap.” The IEA Children’s Fund strives to fulfill the modest and immediate needs of students encountered by IEA members.
  4. The IEA influences legislation. Every decision that affects education is a political decision. That’s why the IEA has a comprehensive program to elect friends of public education to office at all levels. IEA has earned the reputation as an influential lobbying group that fights for more school funding and for legislation that is good for kids.
  5. The IEA makes educators’ salaries more competitive. Although nobody expects to get rich working in education, you do expect to get paid at least the going rate for the important work you do. Thanks to the IEA, additional money has been generated to help raise educators’ salaries in the state.
  6. The IEA keeps educators in touch. The IEA is there when you can’t be, monitoring and working with the State Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the Professional Standards Commission and the other agencies that set the rules and regulations that affect you and your students.
  7. The IEA listens to educators. The IEA isn’t just a building in Boise. It is people like you who have banded together in Idaho ever since 1892 to make education the best it can be. Our members set the Association’s programs and policies by electing delegates to the annual meeting and by electing local, state, and national leaders. There is no more democratic organization anywhere.
  8. The IEA reaches out to the public. IEA knows how important it is to bring education’s message before the community, businesses, and community leaders. That’s why we attempt a number of ways for members to reach out to and gain the much-needed support of their communities. Through IEA's electronic and print communications, you can keep up with what's happening that affects you professionally and personally.
  9. The IEA saves educators money. Membership in the IEA entitles educators to take advantage of a number of low-cost group rates on insurance programs and discounts on a number of goods and services. Plus, you get free life insurance through the NEA Dues-TAB program.
  10. The IEA promotes educational excellence. IEA has emerged as the state leader in creating a vision for the future of education – a vision where schools are the center of the community and where educators and other school employees have all the support and resources they need.
