Idaho legislators make decisions about education The Idaho Legislature is comprised of 105 lawmakers – two members of the House of Representative and one senator from each of the 35 legislative districts. They are responsible for translating the public will into public policy for the state, levying taxes, appropriating public funds, and overseeing the administration of state agencies. Idaho’s lawmakers are “citizen” legislators, not career politicians. They are farmers and ranchers, business men and women, lawyers, doctors, sales people, loggers, teachers. Elected for two-year terms and in session at the Capitol for about three months each year, Idaho’s citizen legislators maintain close ties to their communities. The 1st Regular Session of the 59th Idaho Legislature will convene in early January of 2007. The governor can call a special session of the Legislature at any time.
