Please contact your Region Director or one of the committee members if you are interested in working with us. If you have any questions or concerns, we would love to hear from you, so please contact us if we can be of help. We are looking forward to working on your behalf this year. We have come up with some great ideas and would like your input any time. The Delegate Assembly is coming soon and we are looking forward to seeing a lot of ESP participation. Why am I a member? Membership gives us a voice!

By Marty Meyer, IEA Vice President and ESP Task Force member

"One of the key benefits of Association membership is that it gives us the ability to express our viewpoint on subjects that affect our livelihood and job performance. Each of us has a perspective that policymakers cannot do without if they are to make sound decisions regarding education. From the local school board to the U.S. Congress, the Association provides us with a way to be heard, without the fear of reprisal."

Marty Meyer, custodian at Fernan Elementary School in Coeur d’Alene and NEA’s 2003 ESP of the Year

Meet the new ESP member on the IEA Board of Directors

By Scott Bennett, ESP Representative on the IEA Board of Directors

I have worked for the Boise School District for 13 years and I have been a custodian for 12 of those years. I am currently at Hillside Junior High.

I have been a member of the Boise Education Association Insurance Committee for four years. I represent BEA educational support staff on issues related to health insurance and help make choices that give our local members the best coverage for their dollar. Our insurance plan has implemented a disease management program, at no additional cost to employees, to help staff members who have chronic conditions maintain their good health. We also have maintained a deductible that is affordable for all employees. We have had no health insurance premium increases in two years. I believe our member committee plays a role in that.

I am a member of the IEA ESP Task Force that meets, discusses and helps our ESP personnel statewide on issues related to classified employees. I am new to the task force this year. I believe in supporting ESP so that their jobs and employment are secure. The result will make a better learning environment for all children in Idaho’s public schools.

We will make IEA an even stronger voice for all educational staff, teachers as well as ESP. I believe ESP members are respected in their individual buildings and it is important to have representation for them.

Meridian ESP member speaks out

“As a school bus driver, I decided to belong to the Association for many reasons. Idaho is a right-to-work state. This leaves employees open to a lot of discriminatory actions. The protection I get – and you can get – by being a member may save not only your job, but lots of legal fees. I can only say to the Association, thank you so much for being there for me.”
